Board Leaders

It’s a rare board member who agrees to join a board thinking they will need to steer the ship through a leadership transition. So often when we talk with board leaders as they face the departure of the current Executive Director, we hear, “I didn’t sign up for this.” Whether the transition is planned or unplanned, the leader beloved or not, their tenure short or decades long, moving from a current Executive Director to a new hire for that top spot is never simple or easy.

It’s a bold decision for a board to insist that the organization find some space before jumping into a search for the next leader. Bringing in transitional, or interim, leadership gives the board - and the staff - time to catch their breath, evaluate the organization’s position, and be intentional about what kind of leader they will need for their next chapter.

We’d love to talk with you about how Baumgartner Brown Consulting can help bridge the space from where you’ve been to where you want to be, while caretaking staff, contributors, service recipients, and the community.
